Shoosmiths is to increase its trainee numbers to 30 per year, beginning next autumn.

The firm currently has 22 trainees at any one time but is increasing that number as part of its wider growth plans.

It will take 24 trainees in its September 2019 intake and six trainees in March 2020, with the aim of 20 trainees in autumn and 10 in spring in future years.

For the first time, the firm’s London office will also permanently host trainees.

Samantha Hope, Shoosmiths’ graduate recruitment manager said: “To ensure Shoosmiths is moving in the right direction, every three years we take a fresh look at our firmwide strategy. With this comes a renewed focus on the number of trainees we recruit per year as we plan ahead for the introduction of the Solicitors Qualifying Exam, and we are pleased to confirm this will include London as part of the ambitious growth strategy for that office.”

The firm’s first-ever March intake has just reached qualification, with nine taking up newly-qualified roles with the firm. Seven trainees qualified into the corporate division, one into real estate, while one joins business advisory.
