NEOM - MagnaChief Legal, Governance, Risk and Compliance Officer - Gulf of Aqaba

Mathieu is a Board-certified senior executive with extensive experience steering global businesses through complex legal, governance, risk, compliance, and commercial challenges across the energy, infrastructure, industrial, digital, financial, land/property development, and real estate sectors. He is a recognised promoter of integrity and an advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion. In his role as the Chief Legal, Governance, Risk and Compliance Officer for the Gulf of Aqaba and Trojena regions and subsidiaries, Mathieu is enabling the building from the ground up of NEOM, a fully integrated, smart, sustainable and futuristic region in northwest Saudi Arabia on the Red Sea. Previously, he spent nearly two decades at GE Power, serving in several key leadership roles, including General Counsel EMEA, Global General Counsel for Power General Services, and Global Head of Legal for commercial operations. At General Electric, he developed operational procedures that resulted in leaner, quicker and more efficient processes, and he was engaged in negotiating high-value EPC/construction projects in the nuclear, combined cycle, wind, HVDC systems, electrification and digital sectors. Mathieu also worked as a consultant for Dentons, the world’s largest law firm, where he developed integrated solutions and offerings for general counsels, chief risk officers and compliance leaders. Prior to GE and Dentons, Mathieu was a partner with the largest law firm in South-eastern Europe, representing Fortune 500 clients in their Greek and Balkans’ M&A, privatisation, banking, finance, insurance and energy operations. He started his career as a litigation attorney at Woods LLP in Montréal, Canada, a top-tier litigation boutique. Mathieu has LL.B. Common Law and B.C.L. Civil Law degrees from McGill University (Canada), a Masters in International & European Law from Université Paris-Panthéon-Assas (France), and a J.D. Law degree from Democritus University (Greece). He is admitted to the Bar in England & Wales (Middle Temple), Québec (inactive) Spain and Greece, as well as licensed as a sole professional in the United Arab Emirates. He is fluent in French, English, Catalan, Italian, Spanish and Greek. He is also Six Sigma Green Belt certified.
